MSNBC’s “Countdown” with Keith Olbermann: “Worst Person in The World” – Republican Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen says: the Earth is only 6,000 years old.

SYLVIA ALLEN thinks we shouldn’t have any environmental laws because god gave us this planet to use up 6,000 years ago. Ironically, she wants the Uranium that proved this planet is over four billion years old (Uranium-lead dating).

Arizona state Senator Sylvia Allen (R) voices support for opening up uranium mining in the state. Sen. Allen responds to statements by environmentalists by assuring them that the “Earth is 6,000 years old …” Twice.

This is a common creationist claim: a 6,000 year old Earth contradicts science and goes by tracing the descendants of Adam and Even from the Christian Bible.

After first making her video debut on ArizonaGuardian.com, Arizona state Senator Sylvia Allen hits the bigtime: MSNBC’s “Countdown” with Keith Olbermann and the big winner of “Worst Persons.”

there should be a law, not for being stupid, but ‘intent to promote ignorance on a grand scale’. seven straight and one strike. i can’t remember a time when scientific method – fact haters were given a national podium. fifteen years ago, a statement like this would have ended a career. WTF?!

  6. Mindplay Says:

The idea that the world is 6000 years old is no less credible than the idea that an omnipotent god exists. That is there is no proof for either of them and they cannot be dis-proven.

My brain hurts all of a sudden.
Oh, by the way, have a look on you tube for a Billy Connolly interview clip saying exactly the same thing about Sarah Palin.

  8. Chris Says:

    ^^^
“Sarah Palin is 6000 years old so we can mine her for uranium”

  9. hm. . . Says:

    bless her heart.

  10. Danger Says:

@ Mindplay: The age of earth can be proven beyond 6000 years old. Not sure what u mean.

  11. Mindplay Says:

@ Danger: If I build a chair do I measure the life of the chair from the day I built it or do I measure it from the age of the wood it was made from?

  12. Akkinokage Says:

Chris; I just had this horrible mental image of two North Korean Uranium miners standing over the body of a 6000 year old, dried up husk of Sarah Palin.
    “You drill into her!”
    “No, YOU drill into her!”
“Stuff Kim Jong-Il anyway. I’m going home for beer.”

Anyway, here is a link to that Billy Connolly interview.

    That analogy is silly.

  15. Danger Says:

that depends on what you want to know: how long it’s been a chair? or how old the wood was that made it?

indeed, it’s a silly analogy and doesn’t correlate to the argument here at all.
