Unknown Lifeform in North Carolina Sewer!

“They are clumps of annelid worms, almost certainly tubificids (Naididae, probably genus Tubifex). Normally these occur in soil and sediment, especially at the bottom and edges of polluted streams. In the photo they have apparently entered a pipeline somehow, and in the absence of soil they are coiling around each other.”

Sweet baby Jesus! I know exactly where that drain pipe is! If you walk to the end of the road at the back of Broughton High School, then cross the street and duck down into the creek/ravine/trickle on your left there’s a big drain pipe where all the kids congregate to smoke weed, and yes, I’ve crawled under Cameron Village a zillion times, though it was decades ago, long before the Man-eating Pulsating Wormblobs arrived from Outer Space! Ick!!!!
