And someday soon …….. he will be shot, killed, skinned, decapitated, & have his head displayed on a wall of some buttered-up nutsack with a cleft asshole.

*Splashy Splashy!* Ohhh! Sweet baby!
The elk in Estes Park, CO will just roam around the town and (thankfully) people will stop for them in the streets. It’s amazing to see so many beautiful creatures. The people of Estes Park are very proud of their elk (as they should be). When I went to Rocky Mountain National Park earlier this year, I saw a mama moose with her baby drinking from a pond. It was absolutely breathtaking! It’s unimaginable to think anyone would want to hunt (or hurt) any animal. One can go to Pike’s Peak (a rather short drive from where I live) and spot majestic bighorn sheep. Everyday, I look around at the pets I have at home. I watch the cats as they nap near me and as the dogs walk next to me and realize the miracle.
Torn apart by wolves isn’t so bad. Hunted by obnoxious, smelly humans with their big horrible guns for sport is terrible. Wolves are carnivores, they must hunt and feast. It is natural and necessary. Humans are scavengers…omnivores…well, more like preservativechemicaljunkandsaturatedfativores in more recent years (with all of the chemicals we pump into our bodies, I‘m surprised we all don‘t glow in the dark). We do not need to eat meat. There is no reason for us to. We can get our nourishment in other ways.

I really enjoyed your comment, Otep, and Wynter’s too.
Thank you for reminding me that not all humans are assholes.

I know I will probably get flamed for this but whatever. Not all hunters are bad, just that a majority of them seem to be redneck assholes. Hunting is needed in some parts of the world to keep animal population control in check, although I do find the head mounts fairly disturbing. I would agree with the vegetarian point of view other wise if it weren’t for the fact that I am iron deficient and no matter how much spinach I eat it does not help(iron supplements are my next step). I am definitely not an animal hater I love animals and have helped many recover so that they can go splash in puddles when they get better.

\m/ vegetarianism all the way!
here’s a few interesting facts about food that not many people know.
the main meats that are eaten are beef, pork and chicken. So that 3 things, 3 different types of meat. Doesn’t seem like much does it?
Now when people think of vegetarianism they think of losing those 3 things from their diets… boo hoo! there are 20,000 edible species of plants in the world!!!!!!!!! Its been found however that only 20 of these species make up about 90% of what we eat. Now doesn’t that sound the slightest bit wrong to you?
vegetarianism does not mean losing out! If anything you’ll discover more things to eat, gain a wider diet, find new and better flavors! so instead of living with a slab of beef, gravy and some carrots (maybe) why not expand your dietary horizons??
3 meats and 20,000 species of edible plants… I’m sure a suitable substitute could be found for everyone with that amount of choice! We just need to SEE the potential in it!

woops! ended too soon!

so if we ever do get around to adopting the MASSIVE selection of vegetation that we have at hand then maybe one of those young elks can grow old instead of taking a bullet from some hick who couldn’t tell the difference between a pea and a turnip.

If only us humans could find such playful happiness in nature’s simple beauty, but we prefer to destroy it instead. There is so much to be learned from observing our seemingly wiser animal relatives. Otep, I enjoyed the knock at our not so civilized trophy hunters. Funny as the description is, a buttered up nut sack with a cleft asshole is probably to real of a possibility in some of the inbred red back wood hoods.

This is probably not going to make many people happy, but I don’t particularly care.
I am a hunter’s daughter, and hunter’s girlfriend, and a friend of many hunters and gun owners. I live in Wyoming, where many people hunt. In fact, the hunting here is so good that people come from California to shoot our animals. This may sound horrible to you, but please consider a few facts:
We did not evolve to be herbivores. We evolved to be OMNIvores. Now if you have chosen a vegetarian lifestyle, that’s awesome. You are reducing your carbon footprint, and doing a lot to make yourself healthier. However, you cannot expect everyone to be vegetarian. That’s like expecting everyone to stop having sex because of the AIDS epidemic. So if people are going to continue eating meat, which they will, wouldn’t you prefer they hunt it themselves? My dad hunts, guts, skins, cuts, packages, and cooks his own meant. By doing this, he in no way contributes to factory farming, which includes the inhumane treatment of many animals. Hunting is natural, it is what we’ve always done. In fact, wild game meat is the only meat I can eat without feeling guilty. The animals are allowed to live out their lives, and many hunting seasons don’t allow the shooting of young animals, and some don’t even allow the hunting of female animals. Hunting seasons only run for a few weeks out of every year, so the danger of species depletion is minimal. In fact, around this area anyway, poaching is looked down on more than domestic fucking violence!
Finally, hunting is necessary. If you need proof of this, drive Highway 189 between Kemmerer and Evanston Wyoming right now, and see all of the dead deer on the side of the road. These animals were killed when they were hit by vehicles. This was after hunting season. If they weren’t being hunted, there would be an innumerable amount running wild not only on wild land, but also on the highways, as well as here in town. This isn’t only deer. Moose, elk, and antelope are common as well. And while they’re cute as babies, some of these species are very dangerous as adults, especially during mating season.
So I don’t blame you if you choose not to hunt. I don’t. I have no interest in it; but don’t assume that all people who hunt are redneck assholes who don’t care about the land, or the animals. Here, animals, as well as our forests and other hunting areas, are treated with great respect. You don’t just shoot something, take its head, and leave the meat, without consequences. We’re not destroying anything, we are simply perpetuating the natural order of things. We are at the top of the food chain. We were made to hunt and eat animals. I’m sure no one on here would hate someone, or a group of people, for being gay, or black, or having tattoos (or not). Don’t hate people you’ve never met for doing something you’ve never done and apparently know nothing about.

One more thing…
In the age we are in, with the economy in the toilet, and jobs being short, without wild game, many people in my area would be hungry this winter. But because they shot an elk, or a moose, or a deer, they have free food all winter long. Their children will eat, and they will survive, until summer comes along and there are jobs.

@Crux, I can respect that view, i like to promote vegetarianism’s benefits but I have no illusions as to making the EVERYONE a vegetarian! Hunting for food or necessity is respectable, it doesn’t promote mass farming and mistreatment. But I think that with this post is was aimed more towards the fact that lots of people hunt for sport or trophies and not necessity. I wouldn’t abhor anyone who hunted to feed themselves or a family, but I would those who would knowingly kill an animal without any other use but for a sick trophy.
