Dairy Farmer, Kills 51 Cows Then Commits Suicide

COPAKE, N.Y. — State police in New York say an upstate dairy farmer shot and killed 51 of his milk cows in his barn before turning the rifle on himself.
State police found the body of 59-year-old Dean Pierson in his Copake barn on Thursday. A visitor found a note Pierson had left on the barn door that said not to come in and to call police.
State police would only say that Pierson was having personal issues.
The Columbia County hamlet of Copake is about 115 miles north of New York City.
Local farmers buried the cows outside the barn Friday. They would not discuss Pierson or what had happened, but one of the men said these are hard times to be a farmer.

it’s not people it’s the system we’re all living in which is (to me) a killer..
we have to refuse and resist but for some persons it’s very difficult..and a lot of people don’t talk when they’ve got a problem.
make me think of suicides here in France in the Renault/France Telecom entreprise..you talk of what’s wrong to your boss, your parents or companion and if you can’t ..some say goodbye..but I think there’s always a solution.

dean pierson should not be held with the eyes of contempt or anger. the sad truth to the matter was that he actually did the humane thing. he killed only the dairy cows, which he milked only twice a day to prevent stress towards the animals. he did this out of compassion to his situation.
yes, he killed himself, but before he did he put the interest of his animals first. executing them was the only reasonable and humane thing to do.
why, may you ask is this humane? he knew from the get what would happen to those animals after the farm foreclosure, which was inevitable, and that all animals would have to be sold. there are people in this world who have no compassion for animals, who put them in stock cages to stand in their own waste while they are milked until they all they can produce is blood and puss, until they are useless. these are known as spent cows. many business in the food field actually pride themselves with the rationality that the meat they use comes from dairy cows.
the system of meat production that holds the majority of power and grip on poor farmers who have become no more than serfs would be the bidders of piersons dairy cows.
the farming community buried every one of the cows in the morning. they knew his reasons. they understood.
we would do the same for our children, if we knew what fate lie ahead of them when they would be helpless and victim to things beyond control. to things beyond humanity. this is a sad situation. this is a wakeup call.
